POOL & SPA SAFETY COMPLIANCE

Pool fencing and barrier compliance in NSW

In New South Wales, all swimming pools and spas on residential properties require certified Class 10b safety barriers under the Swimming Pools Act 1992 and AS1926.1 Australian Standards.

AS1926.1 Fencing Standard

All outdoor pools require a continuous barrier of at least 1200mm in height, strict non-climbable zones (NCZ), and maximum 100mm ground clearance gaps.

Self-Closing & Self-Latching Gates

Gates must swing outwards away from the pool area, self-close and latch securely from any open position, with latch releases set at 1500mm or higher.

Continuous Barrier Compliance

Maintain clear boundaries with no climbable objects, retaining walls, trees, or boundary steps within 900mm of the outside barrier surface.

Mandatory Safety Inspections

NSW properties with a swimming pool or spa must be registered, inspected, and hold a valid Certificate of Compliance prior to sale or lease.
