Private building certifier in Revesby
Alongside its detached houses, Revesby holds plenty of semis and townhouses. Here a certifier first learns how your current home is set out, shared walls and access included, before new work is planned.

Housing mix
At the 2021 Census, Revesby was home to 15,268 residents in 5,476 private dwellings. Among occupied homes, stand-alone houses led at 62.8 per cent. The semi, terrace and townhouse group came to 29.7 per cent, a high share for this part of Sydney. Flats and apartments were 6.7 per cent. That mix means many projects involve a wall, roof or driveway shared with a neighbour.
Planning instruments
The Canterbury-Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2023 sets zones and building heights. The council's 2023 DCP holds the detailed design rules. Near the station, Council maps a local centre: two commercial cores, north and south, wrapped by a residential frame. Its desired character centres on a plaza linking the station with Abel Reserve. The DCP names three main streets, including Selems Parade and Marco Avenue, where active shopfronts are wanted.
One key site with its own rules
A separate chapter deals with one designated site on Marco Avenue. It asks for a landscaped frontage, a step in building scale and public space on its western side. Its drawings are only illustrations, not an approved scheme. More importantly, a house further along the same street does not pick up those rules.

What owners build here
Because so many Revesby homes share walls, the existing layout often shapes the design more than the finishes do.
- Extensions and second storeys. Driveway access and the gap to the neighbour's house can limit the footprint.
- Knockdown rebuilds. Confirm zoning and lot size early, especially if you hope to add a second home.
- Semi and townhouse alterations. Identify party walls, roof structure and any strata consent.
- Garages, carports and pools. Plan access, barriers and stormwater together so they fit the remaining yard.
Shop fit-outs and apartment buildings in the centre fall beyond Class 1 and 10. They need a certifier with registration in those classes.
How approval usually works
Some minor work is exempt and needs no approval. Plenty of house projects suit a CDC, a quick certifier approval available when the state codes are fully satisfied. You need a council DA where the land is constrained, the design strays from a standard, or a centre chapter applies. Before work begins, a construction certificate must then be issued. If part of the home stays occupied during the build, plan the inspection stages and safety measures early. Begin by sending a site survey, title search and sketch plans. CertifiBuild can sort out the right pathway and carry the job through inspections.

Local questions
Questions we hear about this suburb.
No two lots in Revesby are the same. Give us your address and we will check every map that affects it.
See the council pageDoes my Revesby house fall under the local centre controls?
Only when your block is part of the mapped local centre near the station. Canterbury-Bankstown’s 2023 development control plan (DCP) splits that centre into a north core and a south core, both ringed by a residential frame, with Selems Parade and Marco Avenue among its main streets. Homes outside that mapped area are tested against the general residential chapters and the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2023, which sets zones and heights. Lay your lot over the centre map before reading any centre controls. A planning certificate for the address will also list which plans apply.
Do the rules for the Marco Avenue site affect nearby homes?
No, they stop at the edge of that one designated site. The stand-alone chapter for that Marco Avenue lot asks for a landscaped frontage, a change in building scale and public space at its west end, and it limits basements beneath the landscaped setback. Its drawings are illustrations only, not an approved scheme. A Revesby house further along Marco Avenue, or straight across the road, gets assessed against the usual housing rules that suit its zone. If you are unsure where the key site ends, compare your lot with that chapter’s map.
Will Revesby council approve my duplex because the street already has some?
No, existing duplexes nearby do not decide your outcome. The 2021 Census counted semis, terraces and townhouses at 29.7% of Revesby’s occupied homes, but that only records what was built, not what a lot may hold. A new dual occupancy depends on your zone, lot width, site area and the current local standards, and state housing policy may also apply. Driveway access and side gaps often shape the footprint too. Get a survey and a planning certificate first, then have the design checked against what governs your block.
